On 10 October 2010 the newly refurbished House of the Belgian Surveyors was reopened as “House of the European Surveyor and GeoInformation”. From now on HESGI can officially be regarded as the HQ of CLGE. Whenever our delegates are in Brussels, they are welcome to pay a visit to the house or organize a meeting in its facilities. For planning purposes, please contact us in due time. Mrs Dorine Burmanje, President of EuroGeographics, has recently established her Head Office in the same venue. She accepted to preside over the solemn opening ceremony and cut the ribbon in presence of several CLGE and EGOS board members, as well as key players from administration and the industry.

President Van Rompuy praises EuroGeographics’ move to Brussels
During the General Assembly of EuroGeographics in Brussels, from 11-13 October 2010, Mr. Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, has welcomed the move of our sister organization to Brussels: “I think you [EuroGeographics] made a good choice as an association to move closer the European Commission, in the House of the European Surveyor and Geo-Information which was opened yesterday [10.10.2010]”.
The Code of Conduct of the European Surveyor is published
Mrs. Claudia Drewes-Wran, head of the Single Market Observatory at the European Economic and Social Committee, has confirmed that the CLGE Code of Conduct of the European Surveyor was published on the official website. We now have to organize the monitoring of the ratification process amongst our members.
A first meeting of the new CLGE Executive board
From 25 to 26 November 2010, the incoming Executive Board of CLGE met in Copenhagen. During the meeting the focus was put on the results of the Varna Brainstorming. The composition of a new working plan was started. The CLGE presence also gave the opportunity to represent our Council at the handover of the FIG presidency between Stig Enemark and ChiChai Teo from Malaysia.
The European Commission asks our advice
The GNSS Supervisory Authority (GSA), appointed by the European Commission to promote the use of EGNOS and GALILEO asks our advice about the use of EGNOS for mapping purposes. Together with CLGE, GSA has set up a web questionnaire. Please read the short online report in DE / EN / ES / FR / IT / NL and give your opinion by following the link to the questionnaire. Ask your national colleagues to do the same. 29-30.11.10, Brussels: EUPOS meeting
EUPOS has organized an international symposium in the house of the Berlin representation in Brussels. During this gathering of international specialists on satellite positioning and augmentation systems, the organizer honoured CLGE by giving a reception in the House of the European Surveyor and GeoInformation. Spanish Surveyors endorse the Code of Conduct
The Spanish Association of Land Surveyors (COITT) at its monthly Ex-Board assembly that was held on November 26th 2010 endorsed the Code of Conduct for European Surveyors (CoC) as guidelines for professional behaviour. The CoC was translated into Spanish and the essential contents were reported to all the members. More information can be found on the CLGE web site
Italy organises 2nd International Training Course for Surveyors
The Consiglio Nazionale Geometri and Geometri Laureati in cooperation with Geoweb S.p.A., company providing web services for surveyors, has promoted and organized the Second International Training Course of Territorial Survey; the course took place in Rome from the 20th of September to the 8th of October 2010.
The course was inaugurated by the President of CNGGL Mr. Fausto Savoldi and by the President of Geoweb S.p.A. Mr. Piero Panunzi who highlighted the continuous commitment of the Italian Surveyors towards continuing education and the importance of international cooperation for the professional development of territorial surveyors. Russia: The Kadastr Nedvizhimosti magazine celebrated the 5th anniversary
The first jubilee of the Kadastr Nedvizhimosti (Real Property Cadastre) magazine was held in the Concert Hall of the Central Journalist House in Moscow, Russia. This professional information and analysis magazine is published periodically being supported by Cadastral Engineers NP. Attendants were representatives from various government bodies and organisations, editors-in-chief of sector magazines, members of the partnership from regions and colleagues from Estonia. An important year for the Swiss Surveyors
A new profession: In August of this year a new profession was launched under the name „Geoinformatic scientist specialization in geoinformatic“ The construction of this new profession had a duration of about four years to teach young people in the direction of geoinformation.
A new geoportal: Since the middle of this year it is possible to find a lot of geoinformation on this website, especially all the maps from the federal office of cartography.
100 years of the Swiss cadastral system: During the year 2012 the cadastral system will celebrate one Century. This is an important moment for the world of surveyors and all the profession is preparing for this event.

OGE increases the way to accede the profession
The profession has currently to cope with three major issues: the renewing of the generations, the diversification of activities and the recognition of professional qualifications. Therefore, the French Order of licensed surveyors (OGE) has decided to increase the ways to accede to the profession. According to the new decree, which was adopted in November 2010, the registration to the Order is opened to the holders of a French or European University Master degree in the fields related to the surveying activities such as town planning, land development, landscape architecture, topography, geometrics, etc. The decree comes into force in January 2011.
Leica & IPOS join forces in Bulgaria
Leica and IPOS made a cooperation called SmartNet Bulgaria: follow the link: www.smartnet.bg. This is the most reliable GPS net in the country. They have 26 stations in Bulgaria (having a distance of 60 km between stations) connected with 13 stations in the other surrounding countries, basically operating on EUPOS. As a matter of fact we have at least two more GPS reference networks covering the whole country. One cannot judge which is the best, but the new one have the most modern approach for the market - many services based on Leica experience etc.
Success stories for the FirstSTEP Programme
France and Belgium manage to get the first connection done between the working world and the students; NGI-Belgium employed several French students for a period of 3 months; a full report written by two of the students sharing their experience will be posted on the CLGE web site soon.
The III Symposium of Chartered Geodetic Engineers held in Croatia
The III Symposium of Chartered Geodetic Engineers was held in Opatija on 22nd and 23rd October 2010. It was organized by the Croatian Chamber of Chartered Geodetic Engineers (HKOIG). The Symposium was entitled “GIS, Photogrammetry and Remote Researches Applied in Geodesy and Geoinformatics” with two separate topics “Current Condition and Strategic Interests of the Croatian Geodesy” and “Prices of Geodetic Services” where the proposal for prices of HKOIG services was presented for the first time. Intergeo 2010 Congress & Trade Fair
With over 17,500 visitors, almost 1,500 conference participants and an increase in exhibitor numbers and exhibition space, INTERGEO continued its growth trajectory, thus confirming its position as a leading international conference and trade fair for geodesy, geoinformation and land management in Cologne. More than 500 exhibitors from 32 countries – with more than 30 percent coming from outside Germany – presented themselves and their innovations to a fascinated audience. The Geodetic Infrastructure in Europe - today and tomorrow, Umeå 22-23 June 2011
The next CLGE seminar will take place in the town of Umeå in Nothern Sweden (for a short presentation: ppt, mp4). The preparations are well under way. You can find all the details on the website of Aspect, our Swedish member association.The seminar will take place on 22-23 June 2011, but, as the mid-summer night takes place the day after you should plan a longer stay. A post seminar event will be organized. Please remember that it will never be dark that day (and night).
Opatija General Assembly
The next CLGE GA will take place in Opatija on 6 and 7 May 2011. As usual, an interesting social programme will complement the meetings. Croatia that recently joined the Interest Group Publicly Appointed and Regulated Liberal Surveyors (IG-PARLS), could sign the Accord Multilateral during this General Assembly and that’s of course one of its highlights. Therefore the delegates are advised to come with their partners and to book their stay until Sunday 8 May at least.
