CLGE promotes Sustainability, ‘Equity, Diversity, Inclusion’ and ethical AI at the IES meeting in Madrid

CLGE took part in the recent IESC Trustees meeting in Madrid, the first face-to-face gathering since the pandemic.

On the agenda for discussion was the need for revision of the Standards by the Standard Setting Committee (SSC) and emerging challenges to ethical behaviors such as the use of artificial intelligence (AI). This is very timely given the imminent release of the revised version of the CEPLISCommon Values of the Liberal Professions in the European Union’ which explicitly requires the disclosure of the use of AI to clients and patients.

CLGE Secretary General Duncan Moss shared the final agreed draft of the ‘Common Values’ with his fellow Trustees which they found insightful. Duncan also advocated for even greater emphasis on ‘Sustainability’ and ‘Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)’. While these are already mentioned in the current Standards there is an opportunity to consider adding them to the explicit list of ethical principles in any future revision to the Standards. Outcomes from the discussion will be remitted to the independent IES SSC for further consideration.

We were pleased to see that the Irish language version of the Standards, which was translated by former CLGE Vice President Muiris de Buitléir from Dublin, has now been published alongside the English and German versions. Duncan offered the assistance of the CLGE family with future translations of the Standards into other European languages and his personal support to Peter Bolton King in editing the IESC website in future.
