Young, Connected, and Driven
The 7th FIG Young Surveyors European Meeting (7YSEM) took place on 23 and 24 October 2024, in Bucharest (RO), bringing together young professionals, students, and industry leaders from across Europe.
Organised through a joint effort by the FIG Young Surveyors Network, the Council of European Geodetic Surveyors (CLGE) and the Romanian Surveyor Union Young Commission (UGR Young Commission). This event underscored the commitment to fostering growth, collaboration, and innovation among Europe’s emerging surveyors.
The organising committee, with co-chairs Shirley Chapunza (Zimbabwe), Chair of the FIG Young Surveyors Network; Iaroslav Zifceac (Romania), representing the Romanian Surveyor Union Young Commission; and Marineli Dancheva (Bulgaria), the CLGE Young Surveyors’ Representative, worked with great dedication to deliver a programme rich in insights on surveying, geospatial sciences, and technology.
CLGE Director General, Jean-Yves Pirlot, represented CLGE at this significant gathering, addressing participants during the opening ceremony and reinforcing CLGE’s commitment to supporting young professionals across the sector. His presence, alongside notable speakers including Peter Ache, Chair of FIG Commission 9 (Valuation and the Management of Real Estate), and representatives from government and academia, highlighted the important roles that experienced leaders play in mentoring and inspiring the next generation.
Presentations and discussions during the 7YSEM covered a spectrum of relevant topics, from new technologies in data collection and field operations to environmental management. The event’s collaborative spirit showcased the strong relationship between CLGE and FIG, emphasising the organisations’ mutual commitment to supporting educational and professional development for young surveyors across Europe. CLGE looks forward to building on the connections established at the 7YSEM, continuing its work alongside FIG, and supporting young surveyors through knowledge exchange, professional development, and networking. This year’s successful meeting stands as a testament to the dedication of the organisers, the enthusiasm of the participants, and the ongoing mission of CLGE to unite and empower Europe’s young geodetic surveyors.
