Meet CLGE Ambassador Mar Roca Mora – from Contest Winner to marine earth observation doctoral researcher
We are pleased to introduce our second CLGE Young Surveyor’s Contest Ambassador 2025, Mar Roca Mora from Spain. She was awarded the prize in 2024 in close competition for her outstanding paper entitled ‘Seagrass and invasive algae mapping: An Earth Observation approach to support European blue carbon strategies‘.
Mar Roca is a PhD Candidate at Spanish National Research Council. After the CLGE Contest of 2024 she has something to say for new participants: “Being awarded by the CLGE has motivated me to keep working on aquatic remote sensing, confirming the importance of geosciences in the Ocean Decade. As a marine scientist, attending INTERGEO allowed me to explore the emerging cutting-edge technologies available to study the coastal ocean. In summary, it inspired me to continue researching how coastal Earth Observation solutions can contribute to public informed decision-making in a climate and biodiversity crisis.”

Selected finalists will be chosen from among all applicants and will be invited to proceed to the online finals. During the finals, they will present their work in online sessions, where a jury will select three winners in each of two categories: ‘Bachelor’s and Master’s’, and ‘PhD and Research’.
