Turning Aerial Data into Smart Maps Ambassador Miloš Basarić Leads by Example

Our ambassador Miloš is sharing how the whole experience around winning his prize has inspired him.

Join our 2025 CLGE Young Surveyors’ Contest to feel this kind of motivation too!

Miloš Basarić is a Junior Researcher at the Military Geographical Institute in Belgrade and a PhD student in Geoinformatics at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, Serbia. He was awarded Second Prize in the 2024 CLGE Young Surveyors’ Contest for his Master’s thesis titled “Automatic Extraction and Placement of Building Point Vector Data from Aerial Imagery for the 1:25 000 Topographic Map Production using U-Net.” His work demonstrated how U-Net architecture can significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of topographic mapping.

Winning the award reinforced Miloš’s passion for applying spatial data and technology to real-world challenges. It has encouraged him to keep innovating, connect with experts, and continue turning geospatial insights into practical solutions.

If you’re a young surveyor or student in the geospatial field, now is your chance to follow in Miloš’s footsteps. Finalists will be selected from among all applicants and invited to present their work in an online session. Three winners will be chosen in each of the two categories: Bachelor’s & Master’s, and PhD & Research.

The prize involves not only a financial award but a chance to be presenting at INTERGEO 2025.
