ILMS starts at the FAO in Rome
Under the auspices of the United Nations, the inaugural International Land Measurement Standards Coalition meeting was held at Food and Agriculture Organization Headquarters in Rome on Thursday 09th and Friday 10th June. There were 25 participants which are really wonderful and a credit to the global land survey profession’s willingness to work and collaborate for the good of all. Land measurement standards are a complex but important subject. There is a real opportunity to make land professionals part of the solution of many issues the world is facing. It suffices to think about the land-based investment, tenure security, underlying geoinformation, and rapid urbanization issues and the need to have standards in this field. During the meeting, the CLGE has presented the scope of this coalition and the meeting has ended with the signing of the International Land Measurement Standards Coalition Declaration.
