CLGE supports the 7th FIG Young Surveyors Conference
The 7th FIG Young Surveyors Conference was held in Warsaw (PL) on 10th and 11th September 2022 immediately prior to the opening of the FIG XXVII Congress.
CLGE Vice-President Jānis Klīve participated and met many young surveyors. This year the topic of the Conference was ‘Volunteering for the Future: Smart Surveyors for Social Good’ to recognise the role of young surveyors in pushing the frontiers of the surveying profession through volunteering, playing a vital role in society. Jānis
At the opening of the Conference, alongside Dr Diane Dumashie (FIG Vice President), Krzysztof Bakula (Conference Co-Director) and John Hohol (FIG Foundation President), Jānis Klīve introduced CLGE to the young surveyors (YS) and explained our cooperation with FIG YS European Network. Jānis invited the YS to take part in CLGE initiatives like the annual Global Surveyor’s, Global Surveyor of the Year and the CLGE Young Surveyors’ Contest. Please read his presentation here.
The two days of the Conference Programme were full of presentations from invited speakers and YS themselves who described their activities in their own countries. FIG president Prof. Dr. Rudolf Staiger presented ten facts about FIG that every YS must know. Besides the presentations the YS joined in workshops and panel discussions. In addition, some cultural events were organised by supporters of the Conference (Leica Geosystems and Trimble) such as a tour to Polish Vodka Museum with traditional Polish food and a charity dance: Polonaise and Krakowiak.
At the conclusion of the Conference there were heart touching videos from the YS network to thank its leader Kwabena Obeng Asiama for his two-year presidency and volunteering his time to the FIG YSN community. At the end of 2022 the year Kwabena as Chair and Ferah Pırlanta Köksal as Vice Chair will step down and new leadership will be announced.
