Global Surveyors' Day 2023

As every year since 2018, we will celebrate the Global Surveyors’ Day 2023 on 21 March. This tradition continues the European Surveyors’ Day launched in 2012.

The purpose of this day is to give worldwide recognition to the pioneers, individuals and industry that have shaped the history of Earth measurement and continue to be the foundation of the surveying community.

This year, the Fédération des géomètres francophones / Federation of French Speaking Surveyors (FGF), in collaboration with the CLGE and FIG, is honoured to coordinate the celebration which will take the form of an online event, organized in 2 sessions, the first at 8:00 AM CET (for audiences in the Asia-Pacific regions) and the second at 8:00 PM CET (for audiences in the Middle East and Near East, Africa, Europe, South America, and North America and the Caribbean regions). Participants in Paris (Conseil régional de l’Ordre des géomètres-experts de Paris, 1 rue de Chazelles, 75017 Paris, France) are requested to register without delay at [email protected]. They will receive further instructions in return.

The FGF has nominated the 2 French mathematicians astronomers and surveyors Jean-Baptiste Joseph Delambre and Pierre François André Méchain, inventors of the metric system, as the Surveyor of the Year 2023. A poster and a short publication (in English and French) will also be published for the occasion.

Comme chaque année depuis 2018, le 21 mars prochain sera célébré comme la Journée mondiale du géomètre 2023. Cette tradition pérennise la Journée européenne du géomètre lancée en 2012.

A l’occasion de cette journée, il s’agit de faire reconnaître mondialement les pionniers, les individus et l’industrie qui ont façonné l’histoire de la mesure de la Terre et qui continuent d’être le fondement de la communauté des géomètres.

Cette année, la FGF, en collaboration avec le Comité de Liaison des Géomètres Européens (CLGE) et la FIG, a l’honneur de coordonner la célébration qui prendra la forme d’un événement en hybride, organisé en 2 sessions, la première à 8h00 CET (pour le public des régions Asie-Pacifique) et la seconde à 20h00 CET (pour le public des régions Moyen-Orient et Proche-Orient, Afrique, Europe, Amérique du Sud et Amérique du Nord et Caraïbes). Les participants sur place sont priés de s’inscrire sans attendre via [email protected]. Il recevront de plus amples instructions de sa part.

La FGF a désigné les 2 mathématiciens, astronomes et géomètres français Jean-Baptiste Joseph Delambre et Pierre François André Méchain, inventeurs du système métrique, comme binôme de géomètres de l’année 2023. Un poster et une courte publication (en langues anglaise et française) seront également publiés pour l’occasion.
