FIG Climate Compass Task Force Webinar – 11 October 2023
Following the interest generated by the VIII CLGE Conference of the European Surveyor on ‘Blue Surveying’, which took place in Seville (ES) on 27 October 2022, the President of FIG and many members have paid close attention to this topic, broadening its aspects to include all environmental and climate change issues.
Following the Conference we organised a Special Session on Blue Surveying, under the auspices of FIG Scientific Committee, as part of the FIG Working Week 2023 in Orlando (US). This successful session, held with the cooperation of FIG Commissions 3 and 4, saw presentations coming from the five Continents (Europe, America, Oceania, Africa and Asia) and had the participation of lots of delegates. CLGE was well represented by President Vladimir Krupa, Director General Jean-Yves Pirlot and other Executive Board members.
During the Working Week, the FIG General Assembly formally established a new Task force on Climate Change. The topic of climate has a broad spectrum, as does ‘Blue Surveying’, including land, water, marine, the role of the surveyors and the importance of their actions within this field. You can easily understand how closely linked this Task Force is to our Blue Surveying Project.
CLGE Vice President Enrico Rispoli was invited by FIG President Dr Diane Dumashie, who also participated in our Conference in Seville and was very impressed by our topic, to be a member of the Task Force. Following consultation with the CLGE Executive Board, Enrico has accepted to represent CLGE within the Task Force and to continue our Project. As we have said since the beginning, the Blue Surveying Year is not the end of Project, but rather it’s just the beginning! Recent climate related disasters such as the very recent hydro-geological disaster in Libya underlines why it is right that CLGE places such importance and urgency on this topic.
CLGE members can contribute to the commitment and visibility of our organisation, which is particularly sensitive to climate and environmental issues. For this reason, we invite you to become directly involved and to participate in the first Webinar organised by the FIG Climate Compass Task Force, please see below for more details.
Moreover we encourage you to follow the work of the Task Force on linkedln.
Please feel free to contact Enrico Risoli and Maria Scorza regarding the work of the Task Force.
